Per Elias Perry, Hirsch was a schojet (ritual slaughterer).
His only picture (he was very supersticious and believed photographs stole peples's soul) was taken the day he died of tuberculosis. His family convinced him that -since he was about to die- there would be no harm in taking his picture.
